This position requires outstanding educational expertise, excellent communication and coordination skills and a proven ability to provide leadership at all levels within a school community.
About the role:
The Head of House oversees the day-to-day operations of the Senior School Boy’s Boarding House (Year 10 to Year 12). Reporting to the Head of Senior School, the Head of House is responsible for the welfare and progress of all students in their care and the management and direction of staff working within the House. The Head of House is also an active member of the teaching staff. Candidates must have experience within a boarding environment, a proven record of success in a management role and a passion for education.
All teaching staff are actively involved in the co-curricular and the pastoral care programmes within Day and Boarding Houses and play a significant role in enhancing the resiliency and wellbeing of students through the delivery of Positive Education.
This position is required to work day, afternoon and evening shifts, as well as weekends and overnights.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the welfare and supervision of students in their care
Enabling tutorial, counselling, discipline and routine arrangements that will promote the development and wellbeing of individual students, as well as responsible community behaviour
Enabling engagement with the tenets of holistic education to develop and foster a sense of community in the House and in the broader School
Encouraging the development of student leadership, as reflected through the quality of House and School spirit
Ensuring that students are appropriately advised on subject selection, tertiary education and co-curriculum activities and commitments
Liaising with academic staff about the needs of individual students in their House (i.e. difficulties and disabilities)
Liaising with parents and guardians about their child’s progress and to promote links between the House and the parent body.
Working in a collegial way with all Heads of House on the Heads of House Team, and other welfare and health support staff (Kennedy Medical Centre).
Attending to all compliance matters, including safety protocols and accurate record keeping, ensuring appropriate records of students are maintained, as required
Advising on the allocation of staff, including House Assistants (Boarding Houses only) and to encourage the professional learning and development of House staff in matters of pastoral care and wellbeing
Reviewing and managing the performance of staff within the House
Managing House budgets
Leading and managing staff allocated to the House. This includes ensuring house is always staffed appropriately and staffing of the house is strategically planned
Supporting the development of staff, induction of new staff into the boarding house processes and performance management of staff as required
About you:
To be successful in this role you will need:
Registration as a Teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, which includes a National Police Check undertaken by VIT
To be able to demonstrate a Proficient Level in all the AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
Experience and knowledge of individual academic and pastoral care programmes for students with diverse abilities and needs
It is a condition of employment that Teachers must possess First Aid qualifications and have current Anaphylaxis Management Accreditation
The following qualification is highly desirable:
Post graduate qualifications in Boarding Management, Education or Student Welfare or Business Administration/Management and Leadership
